EITM Travel Scholarships

An Opportunity to Attend the EITM Alumni Conference at APSA 2012

Over the past decade, hundreds of graduate students in political science have participated in EITM summer institutes. These institutes are held at universities across the country, and improve participants' ability to address a wide range of important research questions. Participants emerge from EITM summer institutes better able to leverage interactions between theoretical models that clarify relevant logical relationships and empirical endeavors that clarify critical implications of observation and data.

To recruit the next generation of EITM participants, the EITM Travel Scholarship provides funds for students to attend the EITM Alumni Conference, to be held on Thursday, August 30, at APSA 2012. The scholarships will cover up to $1000 in travel expenses to New Orleans, and eligible expenses include but are not limited to hotel, airfare, and ground transportation costs.

The event is a “conference-within-a-conference” and is being held as a special part of APSA’s Annual Meeting. The conference includes two morning panels, a group lunch with a keynote speaker, and two afternoon panels. All research presentations will be given by previous EITM participants.

Eligibility

To be eligible for an EITM Travel Scholarship, students must be currently enrolled in a graduate program in Political Science or a related field. In addition, you must have completed at least one year of coursework in your graduate program by August 2012. We are interested in receiving applications from historically underrepresented groups in math and science and/or underrepresented in previous EITM institutes.

Requirements

Recipients are required to attend all four Thursday EITM panels and the luncheon featuring the keynote speaker. After the conference, students shall submit a 500 word essay explaining what they learned and how they believe attending a future EITM summer institute would benefit their research agendas. This essay is due no later than September 30, 2012 and must be sent with the request for reimbursement and travel receipts.
